Depends. Where you're going there is an institutional 60 year old rule. But it can be extended on a year to year basis.

Most of the better employers in the Gulf seem to prefer mature teachers and 'rules' varies. If you are over 60, it begins to get harder to find a new job, but few places will 'not-renew' you if you can still handle the work load. You will see some ads now that state that you have to be under 58 or whatever.

UAEU used to only renew year by year for over 60's but I think they have recently given 3 year contracts to people of 60 or 61. What you can't do normally is start a teaching contract if you are over 60. However if you want to be a consultant and live in a hotel and get huge fees, or be an overpaid associate dean, then don't let age get in your way! |
