Related to the last thread, I successfully talked to my employer today and we discovered the problem in my salary. It was an honest mistake made by the accountant, when the upper-level classes were not taken into account. I'm glad this is settled, and in retrospect I went a little overboard in my negative perceptions of the school. This is the first time they've had foreign teachers, so we can't expect perfection. At least not yet Smile

Good to hear Steve, and well handled. We do often become suspicious too easily, coming from systems and countries that have fine-tuned the kind of thing you're talking about. I've never lost out or been done over in China, and have found that when there is a problem, keeping a lid on emotions and setting out the situation in writing has done the trick. Some of the posters on the Job Information Journal have not tried that strategy I fear. This is not to deny that there are nasty practicioners out there, but those who preach the "all Chinese are cheats" line are out of order.

Let's see if Bertie Mk. 5 joins us here, as he usually does when he sees my handle.

14,000 Yuan a month for 30 years teaching experience. Never been done over........?

The first sign of paranoia is when someone thinks that everything revolves around them. (Hence the line "let's see if .... "

It's not paranoia when you keep proving him right. It's a well-reasoned and justified prediction based on past experience.

Glad to hear things worked out for you, Steve. I had the same type of thing happen where I got pretty suspicious of the school and what they were trying to do, but it was just an honest mistake. It's hard to give the benefit of the doubt sometimes, but from now on I'll trust the accountant's office more.

Predicted that incursion, didn't I.
Shanghai's cost of living is 25% of HK, at a conservative guess. So who's the winner? 14,000 Y = HK$60,000.
My Australian salary is better than yours, and it's a cheaper place to live, apart from Sydney.
Before I typed this I wiped my son's bum. Hugely more interesting and less odorous than responding to you.
Try to stay on topic Anthony: you'll annoy someone and get this thread locked too.

Strulle, glad things worked out. Sometimes things aren't as bad as they seem.

Kapstad, take care down there, eh? I hear that Chungking Mansions gets drafty around this time of year.

Capetwon Bertie is not staying at Chungking Mansions - too expensive.
He moved to the Salvation Army!
Next stop: Under a fly-over!
