|
|
Hello all,
this post is for anyone having as much trouble as I am getting clear information as to what documents are needed to obtain a work permit in Mexico DF.
So far I've come up with these:
- Birth Certificate
- Highschool Diploma
- College Diploma
- TESOL Certificate
- Certificate of Good Conduct *(issued by the police)
Does anyone know if all these documents are ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY and if they NEED to be verified *(apostille??) by a Mexican Consulate here in Canada? |

You need to get your documents legalized (slightly different from an apostille). I got a cousin to do mine in Ottawa since i was stupid and came to Mexico without having them done. She only ended up getting my degree and transcripts done, though I don't think transcripts are necessary. They refused to do my birth certificate because I only have the wallet sized card, but I didn't need that for my FM3. Of course, all immigration offices are different. |

So you didn't have to physically be there *(the embassy in Ottawa) to get them legalized? Your cousin just had to present them, then mail them to you? |

You don't need your high school diploma or birth certificate or a certificate of good conduct from the police. |

You will need your passport, which doesn't need to be apostilled or legalized. |

I don't? I really appreciate that information MO39, but I've been getting different stories from every source *(consulate in Montreal, Embassy in Ottawa, etc...)
As a first time teacher/resident of Mexico DF *(end of July 2008), is there any advice you could give me?
What I desperately want to know is exactly what I need to prepare *(whether here in Canada or in Mexico) to be legally able to work.
Thanks everyone for the help! |

M039 is correct. Things are different with INAM Mexico than in the northern Mexican Consulates. You will be getting your FM3 here in Mexico. |

It would be interesting to know what information you've gotten from the Mexican authorities in Canada. Keep in mind that what matters are the rules and regs of Migracin in Mexico, because that's where you'll be applying for your FM3 once you land a job. And, unfortunately, the application of the rules can very from office to office of Migracin. Any information I've given you may only apply to Mexico City. |

Actually, the Consulate in Montreal just gave me a document that I had printed myself *(basically a form to hand in with my application to show that it's MY application) and they told me I HAD to apply while in Canada. That was quite depressing because as I understand, the best way to land a job in DF is to be in DF...
I was planning on moving there on the tourist card, landing a job, then applying for the FM3 while in Mexico.
Any thoughts? |

My thoughts are that the Montreal Consulate knows not whereof it speaks. It could be that you didn't specify that you want the kind of FM3 that allows you to work in Mexico; there is another kind that retirees with a nice pension can apply for that only allows you to live in Mexico, no remunerative activities allowed. But even that kind can be applied for in-country.
Your plan to come here on your tourist card, land a job, and then apply for the FM3 is what everyone else on this board has done, as far as I know.
I would ignore further advice from the MC. All the while I was preparing to come to Mexico, I got all the advice I needed from the wonderful posters here at Dave's and never once thought to consult my local Mexican Consulate. Now I'm really glad I didn't!! |

I agree, this site has helped me more than any other website or conversion I've had with anyone so far.
I'll keep posting/reading here and I'm sure that by July I'll be as confident as I can be haha
Thanks |
