Hi,

So the official word from the embassy is that letting me in is immigration's call and that they very well might send me home. But the actual fact seems to be that immigration doesn't really care. Has anybody here had experience having to explain a one-way ticket?

I have no job lined up, btw.

As far as I remember, I didn't see any tickets being checked on my way in through Mexico City. I assume they do check them but not every single one.

I've never had a ticket checked on entering Mexico, I always come through DF. BUT- here in England the airlines check your tickets and visas when you check in and they can stop you boarding if you only have a one way ticket. It almost happened to me once.

I was in Mexico with a twelve month open return ticket when I had to dash home due to a family emergency. It worked out cheaper for me to buy a 2 week return from Mexico to England via the states and back than change the dates on the ticket I had and buy a new one in England. I brought my original e-ticket with me just in case.

When checking in with American Airlines in Manchester to fly back to Mexico I had problems because I didn't have an FM3 or a ticket back out of Mexico with them. I showed them the e-ticket I had for a flight to England 4 months later with a different airline (so long enough on an FMT). I had to speak to a manager in the end because they really didn't want to let me fly, and I had a ticket back out- just with a different airline. I explained about the emergency and the cost of the tickets, availability of seats in an emergency etc but they didn't believe me. They let me fly eventually but it was a close one.

On arriving in Mexico I had no such problems. My advice- don't risk it because return tickets aren't that much more expensive than singles,even if you don't use the flight back. Your problem won't be in Mexico, just when checking in for your flight. I guess it depends on the airline and the policy in each particular airport but I wouldn't. Hope this helps.

I came back to Mexico this past January on the second half of a round-trip ticket I'd purchased here (DF to Philly, Philly to DF), so obviously didn't have a return ticket in my possession at Philadelphia Int'l Airport. I had no problems getting through the procedures either at the airline check-in desk or with US Immigration or anywhere else in the airport. It sounds like things are a lot nastier in the UK!

i only have a one way ticket so they better not kick off. i am a professional blagger. i cant see them them making a fuss. travel through mexico and USis my story

I came to Mexico on a one way ticket and had no problems back in December of 2005. They did give me an FMT of only 90 days however, and at the time I thought it strange and that it was because I had only a one way tix. But I learned just today from a fellow teacher that immigration is no longer giving out 180 day tourist visas. Which of the two versions is correct, I don�t know.

I just came to Mexico on a one-way ticket. I had no problems and was given a 180-day visa upon arrival.

Of all the times I've flown from the US to Mexico, I have never been asked to show a return ticket. Twice I flew in on a one-way ticket (airports were GTO and MLM).

I've flown into Mexico three times in the past year (twice from the US and once from Brussels). All three times I was on a non-return ticket, and was given 180 days on my FMT. I'll be flying in again on a one-way this Thursday, so I'll let you know if I have some kind of problem!

What I've heard is that Mexican immigration doesn't care at all, but that it's the airlines that can get sticky about one-way tickets, viz Mrs. L's experience above.

I�ve never had a problem entering Mexico on a one-way ticket - either from the airlines, or migra. I did it once in Torreon, and once in DF. I also had my dog with me, but no questions were asked about when either of us were leaving!

Yes, he`s adorable. I`ve visited Dixies dog many a time, and I can finally say he is adorable. He has an energy level that surpasses any dog I have ever encountered. I suspect he was initially raised on sugar cubes.
