|

Hi,
I'm leaving Spain in 4 weeks, going to another European country (not the UK) and looking for cheap companies who deliver parcels internationally. In the UK there's parcels2go for 25 pounds or so for 20 odd kilos, but can't find anything similar here... if anyone knows something I'd be very graeful (travelling by bus with it all, or train isn't an option unfortunately).
Thanks! |

For 25 kilos, I suggest you go to this place I found called "Correos" ( They are all over the place) and get yourself something called a "Caja Verde". You fill up the box and address it, then you go to the window and say "Lo mas borato manera posible por favor" Then, "Hey presto!" the box will be taken to the place you wrote for the address.
Darned clever these spaniards. Much easier than in the US. |

You will not be understood with such poor Spanish.
cheap = barato
In any case, ''manera'' is feminine and the adjective would be barata and the article ''la''. ''Lo'' is neuter and is used only before nouns of indefinite gender. |

Hoot Mon! It got my stuff to Moscow so I think it was good enough for government work.
The point is to communicate and get the job done. I leave pedantic minutae to the grammarians and other nit-pickers of that ilk. We are not writing final exams here. We are trying to help the OP get his stuff moved.
If you have a gripe against me, why don't you send me a PM and perhaps I will sort you out, but probably I will just ignore your silly remarks.
The point is let's not trouble the nice people in public with a lot of juvenile nonsense. |

Juvenile nonsense it isn't, MDK. If you insist on posting in Spanish, please get it correct! |

mdk, I have to point out that you've been a HIGHLY outspoken advocate of people learning the language of a country before they dare feel qualified to go there.
It does seem a little ironic that you are recommending helpful phrases for newbs without a perfect command of the language, OR a qualifier (noting that, while you've personally found the phrase useful, you can't be 100% certain of the correctness of the grammatical details....). |

I have never advocated a "perfect" command of a language. I have always advocated a "working" command of the language.
At any rate, I was not "teaching" when I took the time to explain to the OP how he could solve his problem. I was trying to be helpful and I was sorry to see some tiresome, supercilious buttinski jump in with his two cents.
Furhermore, I am an "English" teacher who makes no further claim than being able to get the job done quick and dirty in Spanish.
