Hi guys,

Been looking into TEFL for a few months trying to absorb as much info as possible.

I'm a 23 year old from the UK and have a Bachelors degree.

I am planning on doing a CELTA/TESOL course later in the year in Prague. Hopefully get a few months practice there as well before i head over to either Thailand or Korea for a year or more. Then maybe Japan and China.

I did have a list of questions but i can't find it at the moment, so I'll just ask some that i can remember and come back to it later when I've found my list.

Are there any good certificate courses in Prague that you would recommend over the rest. From the ones i found on my web searches I'm leaning towards The Language House and INTESOL, are these any good?

After my course i want to get a little practice before heading to the other side of the world. Is it possible to get a teaching job in Prague for only 2-3 months?

When i say i have a Bachelors degree, it is only a pass without honours (eg. 2:1, 3rd, etc). I took the whole three years and was heading for a 2:1 but for personal reasons i didn't make it the whole 9 yards. I still graduated and have a degree certificate, but will this affect my chances of a getting a Visa, etc?

Are there any good books that you would recommend me reading in order to prepare for the certificate course and the rest.

That all i can think of right now. I'll try and find that list.

No, you don't need an honours degree to get a visa, an ordinary degree will do.

For books, do a search for the word Harme* (wildcard will cover Harmer, Harmer's, Harmers', Harmers's) or Lewi* along with my username (fluffyhamster) as author and you'll get a few results for threads where I've made some recommendations.

You won't be likely to find any contracts in Prague for the time period you mention. Normal contracts run September - June. There are always some percentage of teachers who don't return in January, and at that time you might get something Jan - June. Finally, you may find a school that's lost a teacher and be able to pick up short term in that way, but that's kind of chancy.

Your BA won't matter in the CR, and the course you mention has a good reputation.
