Dear friends,

I will certainly appreciate any information on the salary structure at Taibah University. The information is sought by a US citizen of foreign origin (Muslim), who is actively considering an option to relocate to the Holy City in Saudi Arabia.

Any feedback and input will be highly appreciated!

Academic experience: 10 years in the US
Current position: Associate Professor

Well, as far as you have the RED passport, this will be an advantage for you regardless of your origin! So, use your RED passport when negotiating your salary and benefits.

Well, the salary scale for foreign academic staff with SA government universities is according to the pay scale for Non-Saudi staff.
So, assuming you will be offered the position of Associate Professor with 5 years of teaching experience (max you get), then I guess your salary scale will be in the range of:
SR12800 - SR14500
+ extra 30% (not sure if this still applies for US based candidates?)
+ Accommodation allowance = SR25000 /year
+ transport allowance = SR600 /year
+ Furniture allowance

Now it is up to you to negotiate a good salary and benefit for your case, especially if you are holding the position of an Associate Prof in one of the US universities. Your bottom line, I guess, will be your current salary + certain % according to your circumstances in US.

Good luck.

King Cobra,

Thank you for your timely and quick response!

I have a BLUE passport, RED is the color of a EEC passport.

More information on the functioning of the University and living in the Madina al Munawara will again be appreciated.

I did not work with Taibah university, but you can check the following link about Taibah university ...

Also, you may PM the poster gold who is on a sabbatical leave with Taibah university, he may give you more details about work environment, and here is his reply on the matter:

I am on one year sabbatical leave at Taibah University. My experience in the year I spent is very negative. Although Madina people are better than those in Mecca or Riyadh but you will suffer suffer suffer no matter what.
First of, driving is the worst I have ever seen. The administration is terrible-bunch of idiots. Ignorant Saudis will treat you as a slave unless you show and tell them that you don't care about their stupid Riyals. The media of teaching is Arabic in general.
Taibah is not a university yet. What you see on their website is not true.

Me and others will leave by the end of this year although my friends planed to stay for a few years. This is my first and last year in this country and the Middle East. Only failures think of Saudi Arabia. I am sorry for my negative message but we just stoned a barbaric driver with our ice cream cones next to Mecca. Haram or Mecca, Saudis have no manner at all! Sorry, they need ISLAM 101. Back to America!

I have visited the holy city of Al-madinah Al-Munawarah several times, the people are nice, and the city also is nice, especially in Ramadhan and the two Eids. So, if you are looking for couple of years contract and to do Hajj and Omrah, then I think it will be a good idea to explore the city, the people, and the university, and do your Hajj and Omrah. Maybe it is a good idea to take a sabbatical year and then decide if you want to stay or return to the land of Uncle Sam!

Good Luck.
