Thank you in advance. Does anyone have any experience with King Faisal University in Al-Ahsa? or any knowledge of this institution and city?

Sincerely,
PJ

I have no knowledge of the university. The city is in an "oasis" --but don't conjure up all the pleasant images associated with that word. It is rural, mostly Shia, underdeveloped...a hard place for most foreigners to live.

That being said, I do know of at least two people who lived there and really enjoyed it. I don't think I could do it, though. I've been there, and I found it rather dirty and poor and depressing. However, the people I know who lived there have said that the people were warm and welcoming.

The city is large but pleasant in places (the area where the large and green university campus is being one of them).

You can easily get to Bahrain for the weekends, or if you favour a long drive to Abu Dhabi. There's a train to Riyadh.

The only people I know are those who have studied there, so as far as job satisfaction goes there's little I can say. I would presume it's about the average for Saudi Universities.

Well, to be fair, I do think that there are parts of the Al Khobar/Dammam/Dhahran area that are rich and not depressing...but there are no parts that I would consider to be clean. The streets are all lined with many years' worth of plastic bags and old water bottles, and no one ever bothers to clean it up unless a member of Uncle Bandar's family is coming to visit. Very Happy
