So here I am contemplating whether or not I should bring my friend over to Thailand from Japan to get some work done on her teeth. I here many mixed stories, some saying they are of great quality and it is highly recommended if you want to save a buck or 2. From 1 person that I personally know quite well, I hear only horror stories.
In fact, an acquaintance of mine went to Phuket a few years ago to get braces for his teeth and unfortunately its been a while already since he got it done and still the problem has not been solved. In fact, he says his teeth are worst off then before and he curses Thailand dentists and says specifically to me I will never recommend Thailand dentists, never, never, never!. The fact is his teeth are naturally very crooked and I dont think much can be done for him in the first place. As a result, he ended up getting new braces again back in Canada. He just got them so I have no idea how it will turn out.
Anyway, my friend needs to get 1 top tooth pulled/removed and filled in and braces for her bottom teeth. Dentists in Japan quote about 1,000,000 yen which is about $10,000 Cdn, 310,000 baht.
Frankly, as you all know, that is insane and if I can get her a reasonable price at good quality maybe I can get some of that money .
Any recommendations? Does Thailand generally suck for dentists or is it just one persons unfortunate experience? Anybody have positive or negative stories to share? |

With dentists you can have a good or bad experience anywhere.

Needed some dental work done a few years ago when I was in Kyoto. Was quoted 300,000 yen. Came back to Bkk and had it done for a 10% of the cost. Never had anything but good experiences with Thai dentists. Lots of pearly white smiles in LOS. Can't say that about Japan. I saw a lot of baked bean smiles while I was there! |

Thanks Kent!
I know, I plan to be there in about 3 weeks from now after I backpack China and I'm so getting my teeth taken care of there in Bangkok. It is true, Japanese have really bad teeth.
I noticed that people had really nice teeth in Thailand when I was there last year so I'm really trying to convince my friend to get it done in Thailand. Its hard to break the Japanese mind and their whole "gaijin complex", but its possible once you take them off their island.
Thailand 3 weeks countdown baby!! |

I researched for about six months and finally decided on http://www.asavanant.com/index.html
This is the expats choice, so it's not the cheapest. I am very happy with the results and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them, especially if you're cashed-up from a year in Korea.
