Just wondering what happened with it and I noticed it's "locked" on the forum. I enjoyed reading it over from time to time and checking out the photos.

A thread here might be locked, but blogs come and go at the whim of the person writing it. I have friends that start out writing public blogs and then decide to go private... usually because of trolls.

Here are two possible reasons this blog may be MIA:

1. The blogger's rose-colored glasses spontaneously shattered.

2. QU management became aware of the kiss-ass ulterior motive behind the blog. How do you spell C-O-M-M-U-N-I-T-Y S-E-R-V-I-C-E?

That goes without saying and I doubt anyone read the blog without thinking that was the motive, but still it was nice to have the pictures and a description of the process. Since when has any management been adverse to have their backsides kissed? Laughing

Actually, neither. I emailed the blog owner because I had a referred a friend and noticed that it was blank. The blog owner explained that he had made a number of revisions as he approaches the end of the first year and was going to repost. It seems to have a few more photos and a good bit more info.

dunno what happened wid da blog. Kinda cute

latest highs:

- most people gettin 16-18 teachin hours, not too bad (down from 20)
- things at Al Waab improvin - trees growin & don't look so much like base camp
- lotta people gettin release time fer who knows what
- 40 newbies on the way (dunno if that's high or low)
- new assistant doin his job but actin as mouthpiece for the big boss
-heard rumblins of raise in pay - just mebbe - only rumblins fer now
-basic improvement in info distribution thanks to blackboard thingy

latest lows

-lotta newbies just quit - packin it in and headin somewhere else
(stress too high) - say they've had it, all tuckered out
-still got heavy duty workload, too many papers ta fill out alla time
-too many forms n surveys ta fill out
-lotta oldies quit unexpectedly- say they've had it and movin on
-all in all bout 20 people goin bye bye (includin the fired dudes), too bad some good ole boys leavin the scene
- people stressed out from workin so much, really stressed
-campus still construction site but mebbe that'll change soon, here's hopin
-mr fixit left his post so no more fac support -a real bummer
-lotta people just tuckered out wid all the work - no time ta relax
-still not enuff transparency
-need ta advertize 3rd floor positions & do rotatin so more people get a chance ta do the level supervisor thing, shud only let people do it fer 2 years max - let other people try out
-need to pay people more fer their experience not fair to pay teachers wid no experience the same moolah

basic scenario

things improvin but too many people leavin
hopin it'll get better

I'm one of the newbies on the way. I'm pretty excited about the chance to get out and about in the world, and I'm looking at the glass as half full rather than half empty. Smile

Hey all newbies out there, if ya wanna get an all expense paid trip to the next big TESOL confo, just create a promo blog for this place.
That's what blogger dude did. He made it big time - no kiddin - poster boy for the place. Now that's what I call one real smart dude.
So get in on the action and blog away - gotta be positive stuff, tho!!

The glass is still half full as far as I'm concerned. That blog has been very useful to me, mostly to dispel the fears of family members who are concerned that we are going to "the Gulf." I appreciate the blogger's efforts. If it earned him positive recognition, kudos to him. So far, my experience with QU has been very positive. I plan a blog, too, to keep in touch with family and friends. If it is looked positively upon by QU, that's fine by me. Smile

Jaded, by chance? I met the guy this past year after he fielded a lot of questions for me about QU. I also know people who worked w/ him before he took the job at QU. He presented at various conferences this year because he took a presentation proposal to management and they agreed to let him present it. If you're looking for an "all expense" paid trip (not accurate-everyone has budgets) to the next big TESOL conference why not submit your own proposal to management?

agreed - the blogger is 'one smart dude'. He knows how to play the game. I don't think anyone is jealous, in fact most people admire his smarts in starting the blog. It's a pretty accurate depiction of Qatar but some of the things about the deparment are a little too prettified. He made it as best newbie of the year. Maybe there should be an annual competition - just kidding.

Signing out of Qatar
