Hi all,

I'm in a real bind. I was asked to teach a summer camp in the mornings for a couple hours for six weeks, and in keeping with Taiwanese backward tradition, was not told that I would be teaching the minute I showed up (I had thought this would be a prep day) or that I would be coming up with all curriculum and materials. (elsewhere I would like to bitch for awhile about this mentality of "foreigner enters classroom = it all magically falls into place = kids learn English = parents are happy")

Anyway, I have six weeks to fill up entertaining them 3 days a week for 2 hrs. I'm trying to do one topic a week. Week 6 is music, that's been decided. Week 1 is almost over (I "magically" made it work). I'm thinking of 1-2 weeks of travel/different cultures, one on science, using in class projects, one on cooking. Any other ideas? I'm in a last minute bind....

thanks!!

-rup

It would help if you told us the ages of your students.

Not sure if that's helpful with 'topics' as such, but if you can kill time, you are a born teacher Smile Here you go:
http://www.english-4kids.com/ has lovely wordsearches and crosswords on different topics: clothes, body parts, transport, family, etc.
http://bogglesworldesl.com/kids_worksheets/index.htm has some printable handouts too.
Also, I advice you having some colouring sheets ready for those who lack behind or are in a mixed group.

Hope that helps.

Couldn't help but share this:

You write:

"Also, I advice you having some colouring sheets ready for those who lack behind or are in a mixed group."

First, it is the verb 'advise', not the noun 'advice'. Second, it is 'lag behind', not 'lack behind'.

You may have a degree but you can't speak English.

My comment: though I do make occasional typos, that is not a reason to attack personally. I hope there will be no further PMs of similar content from And Your Bird Can Sing. Thank you.

Well if you student's level of English is high enough you can have them prepare a news program. You can even make it a commical newsprogram to make it more interesting for students.
