Just wondering if there is any way to stay in Taiwan for a few weeks to travel around after my contract/ARC is up. I've been studying Chinese for a year so maybe changing to a student visa? I don't want to ask my boss to renew my visa if I'm not planning to stay. Should I ask the foreign police? Get them to put a landing visa (30 day non-extendable) stamp in my pasport to show I'm not trying to find work? Any info/suggestions would be great. Thx! |

First get a plane ticket. Then go to the Foreign Affairs Police and ask for an extension. They will usually give you 30 days without much hassle.
In areas outside of Taipei it is not uncommon for the police to refuse to help non Chinese as a "favor" to employers.
In that case just go up to the National Police Administration building in Taipei and ask them for an extension.
If you want to get a visa for studying Chinese you should talk to your school. They usually have a way of "handling things" for their students.
Good luck!
