Hi. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice about finding work in Thailand. I have been offered a job from overseas but I have read a bad review about the school in Bangkok, although I have read an ok review to. I was wondering if it is better to apply for work once I am in Thailand...and what the average wage is if working there. This school offer 28-30,000 baht a month. What is the best way to go about it. I have a BA degree and a weekend TEFL certificate (no teaching practice).

Most people seem to say to wait and find a job once you get here. Most schools won't entertain you if you aren't in the country. You can also see your potential employer up close and personal. For example, staffroom/classroom conditions, the area the school is in (you'll need to live fairly close by) etc. Having said that, if the offer was good, I'd take a chance. 28,000-30,000 is not good however. Assuming you are a native speaker (with your BA) you should easliy get at least 35,000. There are of course better paying jobs.

Coming here to look in person is much better. You will find jobs that pay more than 30,000/month.

Just fly into Bangkok (or wherever you want to teach) on a 60 day tourist visa and start knocking on doors.

You may want to do a teaching course approved by the Thai government, however. They are trying to force all foreign teachers get Thai teaching licenses now. These licenses riquire you to take a test or do a course.
