"If you want to break the contract, I have to report to the State Adminstration of Foreign Expert Burean and China Immigration. You will be send to blacklist of China Immigration, I am sure. It means that you can't been permited to Come to China any more. and You can't get any Chinese visa too. I hope you can keep your promise, It is not a game."

Amelia Wang's assistant

"[ foreign teacher X ] is a very great and RELIABLE man. We really respect the RELIABLE and We hate those unfaithful and unreliable ones who are always trying to search for any excuse to break contracts. It is really taking many troubles to School as you know. of coures, Amelia Wang will report you to Chinese Immigration. You will be get punished too. I am sure."

Amelia Wang's assistant

"I think You will be reported to Chinese Embassy and China Foreign Expert Bureau about your dishonesty. If you really want to break the contract and don't honour the signed contract, Your name will be palced the blacklist of Chinese Immigration. Maybe You don't know that those foreign people who don't keep their promise and don't honour their contracts so as to make Chinese Schools miss the good golden time to hire new foreign teachers are most hateful in Chinese Foreign Epxerts fields. Everybody Chinese wants to eat those gangsters alive. As I told you many times, you made us miss the golden time to look for foreign teachers. You kept ONLY say sorry, but sorry is really not enough. You don't know how bad to us and our students it is when you want to break the contract."

Amelia Wang's recruiter

The tone, themes, and language bear a striking resemblance. It's pretty obvious that Amelia Wang, foreign affairs officer at Shanghai Industry and Commerce Foreign Language College is letting China's chameleon psycho recruiter Sang Xing write her messages.

I can't break a contract until i starts and I told you long before the contract started that I wouldn't work for you. Nor did you ever sponsor a visa for me. No Amelia, you're not my employer. You've never been my employer, and you will never be my employer.

Other schools meet foreign teachers at the airport, let them stay on campus during the summer, give them a meal ticket, tell them where the nearest train ticket office is, give them a school bus schedule, give them a TV and fridge that works, send the right size photo and correct amount of postage for medical exams, give them a receive for their utility deposit. Many schools even give them a computer and free Internet access in their apartment.

For those of you who are curious about the details, it's an involved story and I don't fancy typing the whole thing on junk equipment at a noisy Internet cafe here in Cambodia. Suffice it to say, I received the worst treatment I've received at any school and she created quite a mess for me. She has yet to contact me directly. She dares not, lest I confront her with her behavior.

And I was so looking forward to living in Shanghai and teaching business English to university students.

.......and there is no reason why you shouldn't.

Don't be intimidated by Amelia Wang - I think you will find the threats empty and devoid of any substance.

In fact, you don't even need to go through a recruiter to find a job in Shanghai.

ALL recruiters should be dealt with warily.

I am going to go one step further and say ALL recruiters should be avoided.

Your right!

Recruiters are a huge waste of time and effort, they also corrupt the school system a bit. If you work for one then you will definately get paid less because part of your salary will go to the recruiter and possibly someone they bribed at the school. Your job security will depend on your recruiter and their relationship with the school. If the recruiter finds someone willing to work cheaper, they will replace you to cut costs.

Its much better to go to a school that hires foreigners directly or forge a relationship with some school principals yourself and get the job directly.
There are alot of tricks that schools try to trap you into a bad contract.
Don't sign any contract that doesn't benefit you in any way. Be sure to read it carefuly negotiate some loopholes that will allow you to get out of the contract.

I can't remember, but I believe Chinese labor laws state that contract may be terminated within 1 month notice; those under a probationary period may instantly terminate the contract.

MESL, there was a thread up here a few days ago that I can not find now where I thought YOU were Sang Xing -- the nut case himself. It was a thread I think you started about "China's Chameleon Recruiter" or something like that. Anyway, the guy is full of baloney.
