Hi, I have been offered a position with PSU in Riyadh. Does anyone know what the current situation is like there? The only thing I can dig up is a bit of dated information saying that the male campus (where I would work) is, or was, a significantly better (less chaotic) place to work than the female counterpart. Has anyone else heard anything else about what it's like now? The contract seems more than fair and the housing arrangement on the DQ is supposed to be more than adequate. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

No news is probably good news...
I know of a few teachers that work at the men's campus and have not heard any major complaints from them. |

Well, at least I can tell you that the housing is, as you put it, more than adequate. I've been out to the PSU housing at the DQ and it is impressive.
Plus, being on the DQ is a bonus, with its walking trails and facilities and the fact that you get driven to and from work every day and the mini-van can also take you to the supermarkets/malls.
As for the working conditions, my info is not too recent, but my firend who worked there seemed quite content (back in 2003.)

You are quite correct in saying that the men's college has a much better reputation than the women's, though frankly that isn't saying much.
From what I know from people who work at PSU Men's, provided you can deal with a rather stultifying work environment and don't put a huge priority on 'job satisfaction', it should be OK. Salary, housing and especially holidays are quite reasonable. |

thanks for the updates everyone! Living on the DQ definitely sounds like it has it's advantages. I agree that no recent negative news on here is probably good news. I am wondering, though, what would be considered a decent starting salary at a university in Saudi Arabia or PSU in particular? I'm just curious on where my contract offer stands. I'd prefer not to post personal information on here at the moment but feel free to pm me for more details(salary, education level, etc). Any information is greatly appreciated guys! Thank you! |

That's true for >90% of the HE institutions in this country. |
