I'm in South Korea. It's getting boring, but we're a few months away from our next child. In a couple of years, after the little sprog gets his feet under him, we will move on to the next chapter in our world adventure.

With the following credentials, what do those of you in Vietnam think I can earn? I DO know that the cost of living is quite low.

BA.
120 hour TEFL (that I actually earned).
currently 3.5 documents years teaching in Korea (2 in public school).
Cannot document 1 yr in the Philippines (home), 1 yr Greece, 1 yr Mexico. 1 yr teaching assistant in uni.

Also, are privates legal, and if so, how easy are they to come by after some time in country?

Thanks.

I see your post has been here for a couple of days with no reply. I'm not in Vietnam yet, but I too am making the move and have been doing a lot of research. So until an eslc vet steps up with better answers, I'll share some of my research though. For future reference, I would also suggest going through some of the old posts. A bunch of help there.

Your qualifications are ample IMO. I have read posts and talked to people that tell me they don't even have a degree and are making more than $1500. I would say $1500/m is what you should expect at the minimum. More if you decide to get extra jobs, of course. I talked to a 19y/o kid straight out of high school w/ a TEFL cert who is getting paid $1500 from his main job and has a couple other gigs so I am assuming he's getting paid at least $2,000 (Putting in quite some hours though). One thing you have to consider, however, is that this is the internet. People get paid however much they say they get paid. Laughing

I have made online-friends with several Vietnamese and a few expats and they all seem to say the same thing. Cost of living a decent life is roughly 7.9mil VND (500USD / 520,000WON). If you can make chat buddies w/ some English speaking Vietnamese, do it! They are a goldmine of information (Duh! They've lived their entire life in VN.)

I am not sure if privates are legal. I read some posts that said it was illegal but they were from 2003. I'm sure a lot of people do them though.

Hope this was at least of some help to you.
