What choi13 says is sadly true - as statistics will indubitably show.
But my idea here is that "racism" as known in an anglo/american context is not quite the same monster as it is in Brazil (although surely it exists, hence choi13's points).
I think that individual Brazilians feel far more comfortable with people who do not look like carbon copies of themselves. I have lived in and visited many countries but I have seen more "interacial" couples in Brazil than anywhere else.
In most countries that I have lived I think that on the periphery somewhere you could always find some kind of racist or hate group (not that I was looking!). But I just can't see something like The New Black Panther Party or the White Aryan Resistance gaining much traction in Brazil. |

speaking of racism in brazil, i learned that racism in soccer is a crime?! supposedly you could go to jail for saying a racial slur at an opposing player. odd aint it. |
This is common in many countries, not just Brazil. England has similar laws. |

This is right on...Although where I live in Brazil, there are very few tourists, Brazilians in general are very diverse in terms of ethnicity/race...that said, you will definitely notice a prejudice if you are among the minority...but that goes without saying. |

I would love to land a job in Brazil, but I have yet to find a place that pays well. |
