Does anybody have news about the rumored two days off for the King's visit to the Eastern Province? Dhahran/Al Khobar have been all gussied up and everyone is saying that the roads will be closed on Tuesday and possibly Wednesday. Also, what of the rumor that GWB will visit Dhahran? Seems to me that he has already come and gone. |

Well, according to my sources, Uncle Sam has already done his sword dancing with Uncle Bandar, and now he is in Egypt with Uncle Hosni enjoying their tea in Sharm el-Sheikh!!

"Arab News" aka "The Green Truth" had a story on Friday (16 May) that Tuesday and Wednesday would be holidays in educational establishments in Eastern province.
Nothing official yet. Wait and see ! |

Isn't the school exam period now on? It would be strange closing schools and colleges during the exam period. |

You seem to have the strange idea that things like this are co-ordinated, planned, or thought about at all... this is the Gulf... Saudi Arabia...

I can't begrudge two days off to my colleagues in the Eastern Province.
We ESLers in the capital have been lucky enough to have had two occasions in the past year when schools were shut due to the presence of VIPs in town. The first was the Arab League summit in March 2007, the second was the OPEC summit last autumn. |

The King's coming to KFUPM to lay a foundation stone on Saturday. He's supposed to be at Aramco on Tuesday.
No note about days off but rumours galore. The academic timetable has not been tampered with for nearly ten years now. It is certainly not this monarch's style to revert to the old wait-for-the-royal-largesse uncertainty that plagued the country for so long, so I suspect things will go on as normal. |

Life at PMU coninues on. However, on Tuesday at 1:30 PM the major roads were being blocked, especially Dharan Road.
Wenesday, this is going to be a major guess about whether to report into PMU and risk another afternoon road closing.
The test period for PMU begins 14 June and ends 23 June.
