So I've interviewed with a few organizations that do placement in South Korea. I had a great talk with Joyce from Korvia the other night.

I just wanted to through out 1 or 2 specific questions and a few general questions to those of you on the forum.

Has anyone heard of Korvia or worked with them? How was that experience?

Is it difficult to meet new people in South Korea? I know I could be outgoing in the classroom to engage students, but I'm not sure how comfortable I may be initially in a new culture in terms of just going out to meet random people. Do people ever contact each other on these boards and meet at a restaurant or bar just for some English speaking familiarity?

Lastly, I'm a vegetarian. Would this pose a difficult situation for me eating in South Korea?

Thanks!

No idea about most of your questions- but there are plenty of Korea hands on this board who will know.

Just wanted to post to let you know that this post really will be more effective in the Korea specific forum, which requires separate registration. And it might get moved there, so if it disappears here, just look for it over there.

Best,
Justin

You can cook your own food there so you'll be fine.

Korvia will only be getting you a job and it sounds like they are placing people in goverment schools. If it's a goverment school then that you are going to work at, then they will be useless once you start at the job. I have worked for 5 years in Korean government schools so I know the set up. Plenty of Korean will be friendly towards you, however a few will not be friendly.

There are plenty of hangouts where foreign teacher (us) get to meet in the bigger cities. Most of these places are just drinking joints. I used to do my own thing and go out mainly with Koreans montain hiking, fishing and to restaurants.

Questions and discussions regarding living and teaching in Korea are best directed to the Korean Job Forums.

Separate registration is required.

As information, it is not possible to transfer threads from this board to the Korean board.
