| I have an online MA in TEFL from Spain and will be getting another MA from Australia, also done online. I'm interested in going to either Saudi, Oman, or the UAE in a couple years to teach. Are online degrees accepted by most employers in these countries? |

| To be taken seriously in KSA the degree should have some element of face-to-face teaching. The jargon is a "blended degree", ie a mixture of distance and on-site. |

I don't think that she cares much about being taken "seriously" by some bureaucrat, but more interested in whether she will be hired and paid at the salary level for her MAs.

Yep, exactly 
My first MA had 16 courses and a 10,000 word thesis. My second MA has 8 courses. Actually, if you asked me, distance learning is harder since you have to have good time management skills and organisational skills. If anything, I should be paid more  |

In a couple of years the situation in the Gulf will certainly be quite different than it is today.
I think some places in the UAE may accept on-line degrees, Oman??? don't know, KSA not many either.
Although most higher institutions in KSA do not recognize on-line degrees, I believe that some do. I thinksome institutions determine on-line legitimacy on a case by case basis...what is stated officially versus what is stated unoffically... no harm in applying.
It is a known fact that on-line degrees are becoming more common globally, eventually the Gulf countries will be forced to jump on the on-line bandwagon. There are indications that this is already happening. So by the time you are ready to apply in a few years time, you may very well be able to use those on-line degrees. This is my prediction.
I completed a "legitimate" Masters Degree in Post Secondary Education on line hoping to advance my career, but unfortunately have not had much luck with it opening any doors here in KSA. However, I have no regrets ... as I am a life long learner  It may be of use down the road...who knows? |

The problem is that I'm pretty limited to countries. Oman , I've heard it's nearly impossible for a woman to sponsor a man.
I hope you're right and tht the ME changes its way of thinking.
My MA degree got me my job here where I am now. So hopefully it'll help me in the ME |

I know that some Saudi teachers do (mostly) distance MAs from reputable British universities, sponsored by their Saudi employers.
However, I think the school name makes a big difference in terms of acceptability.
There were five or six such teachers on the MA programme I took - clearly their degrees were recognised by their government and employers. |

However, if what you are doing is a so-called 'blended' degree - which requires you to spend some time on-campus - your degree might be accepted, especially if you are studying with a reputable institution like Birmingham or Leicester uni, both of which offer 'blended' degrees in ESL related subjects. |

Nope, not blended. Both are completely online. This is the Min of HIGH Ed? Or the Min of Secondary and primary?
Is the UAE my only option then? |
