So the latest is that Mr Al Scrooge is refusing to pay 2 months summer rent allowance to departing staff, even though the contract AND benefits run to 31st August. Anyone else had experience of this stingy but predictable behavior? What did YOU do and what was the outcome? |

That seems to be standard. Doesn't seem fair. Like you said, contracts run through Aug 31st. By "departing staff", I assume you mean that they are not returning? In hindsight, it would be better to just keep ones mouth shut and never tell them you're not coming back. |

Unfortunately you'd lose either way with this outfit who dont pay returning staff their August salary until they return at the END of August lol. |

IPE has threatened staff with not paying summers pay. IPE is the management for Gulf English, Ma'lee Bilingual, A'takamul... Lawyers have told the staff members to just wait and see. If they don't pay then you have to file a complaint. The contract is through the summer so its unjust according to 3 different legal advisors.
This is the reason why people don't say that they aren't coming back and then just don't show up after summer. You would think Management would figure that out. |

Update:
Al Shaya's English School for Girls ' accountant and personnel manager are telling staff on the subject of summer rent allowances et al , I quote,
''You're not getting it''
Figure this out :
1) non returning staff and returning staff all have the SAME contracts, SAME colour ( yellow local, blue overseas), SAME wording. ONLY difference is salary amount and name.
So why are returning staff UNDER THE SAME CONTRACTUAL CONDITIONS being given rent allowances and others not?
Answer : there's thievery afoot.......
And if that wasn't enough....
2) Indemnity will not be paid UNTIL the residency HAS BEEN CANCELLED.
Erm.....no, you've got it wrong :
Pay all money due......staff member signs paper to agree nothing is owing....you both go and cancel his/her residency. (Every body shakes hands , smiles and wishes the other well....or is that in some soap opera I watched last night?)
Yes I know many schools in Kuwait act like this- but there ARE some who oey the law and treat their staff like human beings. Isn't it time the Ministry of Private Education stepped up to the plate, got a posse out and every June sent a deputy round the privat schools to put an end to this dishonesty once and for all?
Alas alak...off to the shohoon next week I think ........ |

A group of us went to the Ministry of Labor yesterday to file an official complaint regarding all the "illegal" practices they have been doing for years.
And saving millions from it!
A Kuwaiti officer was very interested in our case and took us through the process. We are going back today to meet with our case investigator. |
