I am sure many, if not most of you, have come across this site and maybe even contribute to it.

I have found it quite varied and interesting, most of the time anyway, giving a wider picture of the wider Emirates.

This woman and her husband work in education in the UAE, but the blog is primarily about their experiences in and around the UAE.

I don't understand why someone would add a blog, which is primarily a family posting, to a list of blogs which are not family related, but are community related and informative to the general public. I never cease to be amazed at the pettiness and small mindedness of people! 7aram Sowsan! 7aram!!

I had a brief look, but have to agree with freej, a lot of the info on those blogs is actually just stuff I would consider personal and private to families in the blog. I am not sure at all why they would want the world to see and share, for example, their children's birthday pics, their cousin's camel ride on a first holiday trip to UAE, the results of their first art class, father and son take a dip in the local pool and so on.

One of the blogs I found to be actually racist , intolerant and prejudiced.

From that list, I found the following to be the most informative and revalatory --

I've noticed that many people who start blogs to keep in touch with family don't realise just how many people might stumble across their blog (or how small some of the emirates really are). They don't always think about the repercussions of writing opinions about the host-country, how this might affect their spouse's job, etc.

Yes, I have friends who have started blogs and then have to do lots of editing when they realized that these posts often come up from a standard google... or at least a search on their blog site. A male nurse in Saudi got himself fired and quickly deported over what he had said in his blog, and it really wasn't all that bad.

I don't think it was terrible of someone to put up a blog address, since they are public domain. I didn't go far in the deleted blog above... out of boredom. Laughing
