I'm coming to Prague in 3 weeks and I've heard there are a ton of ex pats there. For some reason, I'm a bit curious of where most of the expats are from. I expect a combo of Americans, Brits, Australians, and probably south Africans. I'm just wondering if there is a majority from one place. I know it's not super important, I'm just curious about what to expect.

Also, I've reserved an apartment on Amerika street in Prague 2. I've heard there are a lot of expats in that area. Are there many Czech people there too? or it pretty much just expats? (I want to meet czech people)

Anyone's input would be appreciated.
thanks

Throw in Canadians and you'll have a pretty good picture. I think higher on the North American + British end. Fewer North Americans this year as the visa restrictions are tighter.

Usually, friendships start with the expat crowd. Czechs tend to be a bit more reserved, and they have their own lives going on.

Just the fact of being an expat in Prague doesn't especially attract Czechs these days - there are so many around, and the majority come and go, so friendships with the locals aren't so common. Expats simply aren't exotic anymore!

That said, when you do make Czech friends (and expect this to take some time) they are REAL friends. They're not the kind of people to say things like 'we'll have to get together sometime' without any real intention of doing so.

As my poster name suggests, Im Australian. Very Happy

The majority of ex-pats Ive met are North American, with a smattering of English/Irish. Ive met very few fellow Aussies. Sad
