Just wondering what the general consensus is on your time spent in B.A. What are some pros and cons of daily life? Annoyances? Pleasures?

After living here for over a year and a half, I'm very happy here..

So much, that I have no plans on leaving Argentina. There's a bit of everything here: music, the arts, sports, festivals, holistic/alternative therapies, and great vegetarian restaurants..

Not the mention the great football!.. (Boca fan Very Happy )

I don't miss Canada one bit.
Un beso grande, S.

Its like any other big city, good points and bad points. I've been here for 9 months, and now is not my favorite time, but it's not all bad.

All the english teachers i know have already left or are about to - the turnover is pretty quick (obviously there are exceptions).

Positives - good futbol, empanadas, i love the public transportation system even if it is absolutely insane. You can't beat the arts - cinema, music, shows. cheap wine. dulce de leche. great places to run.

Negatives - inflation. this f---ing cold weather! lack of non-trendy bars just to hang out in. Argentinian TV (no puedo soportar ni un momento ms de Tineli...). jobs that require you to travel all around the city. insitutes that don't pay on time. institutes that pay 20-22 pesos an hour.

If you come with a sense of humor, patience, and a mind open to new experiences youll be fine. oh, and it helps if you like beef.

suerte,

dt

I agree 100% about Argentine TV! it's full of sexist stereotypes and bad acting..

Other annoyances:

dog excrements all over sidewalks,
the excessive amount of porn magazines in kioskos - in full view,
nearly getting run over while crossing a street
air and water pollution
La Cumbia (Argentine pop music) is nice but very repetitive after 2 songs
Being asked 'if Canada is still hunting baby seals..'

But to me the positive outweights the negative by far, I still love it here..
Un abrazo, S.
