So, I've done some extensive reading on this forum and am trying get a better understanding of the teaching market in Vietnam.

Let me preface by saying that I am a fully certified middle grades Social Studies teacher with a year of teaching experience here in the States.
Based on my credentials and what I've read, I assume my prospects for landing a teaching job in one of the major cities in Vietnam are good.

That said, what kind of earnings/savings potential would someone like myself have in Vietnam?

Are International School positions hard to come by, and if so what options would I have if I were looking to secure a stable and rewarding teaching position in HCMC or Saigon?

Before I get flamed for making a simple query, let me add that while I'm very well aware of the search feature, it's not nearly as effective as people suggest, at least not in my experience. Nor is all the information up to date or relevant based on rapid economic change. So if anyone is willing, please take the time to consider my questions. I have read posts dated all the way back to 2006 and not all situations are alike. I could use some updated, pertinent information.

Thank you,

DrVanNostrand

Also...

With regards to International schools, is there a major distinction between have a B.Ed and having a U.S. teaching license?

For example, I majored in history and subsequently got my teaching license. So, I'm a certified teacher but don't have a B.Ed.

Would that make me under-qualified for most IS positions?

B.Ed and Teaching License....same same.

Int'l school positions are highly competitive. They hire from the U.S. but on rare occasions they hire locally.

However, language school jobs are dime a dozen in Vietnam.

To be honest, based on anybodies credentials the chances of landing a job in Vietnam is quite good. Your chances however, a lot better.

There are many international schools that you could find work with with those credentials. But I always tell people to come here first and you interview the school, not the other way round.

Salary- $1400 - $3000. A matter of which school. How many schools. How many hours. What you know. Who you know. But realistically, I would expect to be earning around $2000 / month and saving a little under half of that a month. That would be living comfortaibly, however prices here have jumped quite a bit. My rent hiked 23% in just nine months.
