I have posted this same question under the general ASIA form, but knowing that ME get around A LOT, and know hundreds of other teachers I am throwing this out there.
Do you know anyone or anything about working in the Maldives?
I never ever hear about it on davescafe. No news is oft good news right?
Am looking at a management job in a few months connected to a large resort.
send me a pm or post response thanks. |

This will be a generally useless response as it is just a positive vibe... At my last job in Oman I had a Maldivian woman student (a very beautiful young woman BTW) who was married to an Omani. Her English was as good as mine and she used to borrow novels from me.
At the end of the semester she came to my office and asked me if I would be interested in coming to teach in the Maldives as her family owned many businesses and they needed language trainers. I turned her down as I could see my family issues back home interfering and the Maldives is even further off the beaten track. I am also not a person who is interested in beaches, but it sounds like heaven to someone who loves the sea.
Unfortunately I lost touch with her. Who knows... it might be her family as they owned resorts too.

ya VS i think it just might be a little slice of paradise thus all the years of SILENCE
never has such silence intriqued me more.
The money wouldn't be bad, since they are paying for everything, and I get to have a lot of input on how to make it all work, if I do go....and yes, I have seen the youtube videos and salivate at the word MALDIVES.
I had a chance to go a few years back as a teacher, but it didn't appeal to me at that time. What was I crazy ??? Now, I am super keen to taste that bit of sea.
Am worried about where the STAFF accomodation is and the quality of it...some places force teachers to 'share'. Which can be great if the person is clean, cool and a non smoker.
Well, ya, people from the Maldives are not too hard to look at, and with the kind of expats that pass thru there I think it would be a constant social whirl wind very very different than the ME.
Here's hoping this thread doesn't become a COLD CASE.

I've posted a reply on the other place. Keep on with the fantasies. They're making me smile all day.
Oh, and as for the exciting social life put it this way. If I was offered a job in Saudi and another paying exactly in the Maldives I wouldn't think twice about it (even Hail would be preferable though Hafr-al-Batan might leave me doubting!)
Of course I'm too old to double up as a gigolo, so I would be missing out on the overtime. |

The only job I've seen in the Maldives has been posted repeatedly over the years. It's always for a large, unnamed resort. What you've described sounds like the same ad. I'll be curious to hear how it pans out! |

Last I heard the Maldives were about to be taken over by the lunatic bearded ones. It is an Islamic State. |

The local dictator doesn't wear a beard though. Rather more the Syrian paradigm than the Saudi. |
