How long should I wait for universities to get back to me?

At TESOL Arabia, I interview with University of Sharjah and ADNOC but I've heard nothing from them. Does that mean they passed me over, or do they usually take this long?

I interviewed with multiple employeres 2 weeks after TESOL Arabia, and all but one employer contacted me w/in 2 weeks to move the process forward. I didn't interview w/ ADNOC or AUS, though.

I think he meant UoS, not AUS. I don't think AUS was interviewing, was it? Isn't PI related to ADNOC or were they interviewing separately?

mishmumkin,

did you interview with any of the PPP's, e.g., Nord Anglia? did they get back to you, if so?

I didn't interview w/ any of them, Zoot.

@VS: Duh....ADNOC is PI (sorta). My head is swimming w/ this stuff at the moment. Shocked I did interview w/ them, but I never heard back. *sniff*

I heard the same thing, carlen. Some seem to be signing up new schools as late as the end of May.

I interviewed with HCT and passed. I got a standard email that said that I've "been recommended" and "will be considered along with other candidates for this and future positions."

So what now? This was for a position that starts this August. Will they let me know either way, and within the next two weeks? And if I don't get offered a job for August, will my application (and interview) remain active?

Thanks.

Apparently this part of the process is notoriously slow. Have they told you that they'll be passing your application onto <insert college name here>? My friends in HCT tell me this is the part of the process that is notoriously slow. On the off chance that they don't make you an offer for this year you stay in the applicant pool for one year.

Thanks for the quick reply.

No, they did not say (in the email) that they were passing my application on to a specific college. I thought that once you passed the interview, then you got offered to every college and the colleges review the interview tape and documents and decide if they want you.

I know this is late, but as I said, if this is to be for August, you'd think they'd let me know soon.

Yes, you would think. Of other applicants that passed the interview, I know that they have heard of an "interested" college, but nothing more. I would touch base w/ whomever let you know that you made it through the interview process just to see which college you might have been referred to. You would think that they would speed this us, as it seems every other employer has made official offers already aside from HCT.

Hey Alfie.

Last year at the TESOL conference in Seattle (I think it was seattle) my wife was told she would be put in the pool.

we didn't hear back from anyone at HCT until the first week of June.

so if they have put you in the pool and you have made all the requirements, just sit back and now you play the "hurry up and wait" game.

There is also the possibility that this year could be slower than others because of the reduced numbers being accepted into the HCT system. You may have read on another thread that faculty are being transferred to other colleges due to this reduction.
However, as old hands will know, that doesn't mean that those colleges who transferred faculty at the end of this academic year won't be looking for new staff in September if/when numbers change. There is talk of a recruitment freeze, but HCT always like to keep people in the pool so they have access to qualified staff at short notice, so nothing is definite.

I would continue to search elsewhere if I were you (you can never have too many options!), unless you specifically only want to work at HCT, in which case it's definitely a waiting game.

Do we know of anyone who ever actually got a job after sitting there for many months?

Since they receive CVs constantly, I would think one would swiftly sink into invisibility...
