It`s been 5 months since I left Japan and a year plus since leaving ECC.
I came back for a visit and was horrified by what I saw on one of those ubiquitious subway advertisements.

It was one of my old coworkers/trainers at ECC posed and beckoning everyone to enroll at ECC. It ruined my thoughts for a moment.

He was/is a total tool. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt and say Japan changed him and before he came here he wasn`t the total puppet he became. You know the type if you stay here long enough. The gaijin who sells his last shred of integrity to become the eikawa "management" lifer. His main function has become to shovel the b.s. that his ECC Japanese superiors tell him onto the gaijin staff.

Please, all you newbies don`t let this happen to you.

I'm not sure what your message is supposed to be here-don't be a tool? Or don't be an eikaiwa manager?

I thank the Lord every day that he would bless me by bankrupting my corporate overlords. Best thing that happened to me in Japan.

Look at it this way - your former coworker could have been a droid in his home country. He's a tool in Japan. So what?

If you stay in a lame job, that is. There are many opportunities in Japan beyond eikaiwa droid. Heaven or hell doesn't happen to you, dude. You chose it.

While it might not be for everyone, you can hardly fault a guy for making the most of the situation he is in. It is possible for someone to truly enjoy his or her job in Japan. Yes, even eikaiwa. You do your thing. Let him do his.

I liked passing out tissues. I got to get out of the school, got some fresh air, and got to walk around. I don't know why people hate it so much.

Your ego = fail

... I guess.

Exactly. Everyone has their own value system, but the eikaiwa industry has pretty low standards in some cases, so I would hope some of us could rise above it. Whistle blowers anyone?
