|

Hello,
I tried posting this over the weekend, and got no replies.
I had an FM3 several years ago, which I kept when I left and never cancelled, assuming it would just expire, and that I wouldn't be returning to Mexico. Now it looks like I am returning.
Does anyone know if I can just renew the old FM3 without having to go through the kerfuffle of getting apostilled documents and so forth? I remember reading on here about a fine, but I don't know if a 4 year time lapse means I have to do it all over again. I think I've lost my apostilled copies, either that or they kept them in Oaxaca immigration office, and I'm trying to find a way out of having to get them done again.
Hoping for answers... any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated..

Loz,
I don't know the answer to your question. But this might make the chance of getting your Apostilles out of Oaxaca harder, if that is where they are (and I suspect it is) the Oaxacan immigration office has moved 3 times since you were here!!!! The good news is it is now conventiently located just a block from the Zocalo. |

Loz, if your FM3 was for work, it would have been (or should have been) cancelled by the school within 30 days of your employment ending. It really isn't possible to renew an FM3 that has expired for 4 years. The time on an FM3 (5 years) accumulates toward the FM2 process, which leads to permanent status, so you can see that wouldn't fly if you weren't actually living here. That and the fact you would owe a fortune on the fine, as it is per diem. |

Thanks Melee and Samantha.. What I'll do then is pretend I was never there, and go ahead and get another one. The $35 pesos I have in my afore will just have to take care of itself..
Thanks again,
