Hi all,
I would like to head to mexico to teach(preferably df) and would like to know what a livable salary would be in the city.
In addition, I am planning to go end of Aug/start of Sept and was wondering if this is a good time to land work.
Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

A lot will depend on your qualifications and experience, as those will determine what kinds of jobs you are eligible for. |

It also depends on your definition of "liveable".
We had this conversation a few years ago and the answer was 6,000 to 30,000 pesos a month!
I don't live in DF, but where I live now I would say 8,000 is now the minimum, 10,000 would put you into single person comfortable living. |

Comfortable is 10,000 pesos per month and up I'd say. Depends a lot on your biggest cost, being rent. It varies a lot around the city. 6-7k will cover your basics assuming reasonable rent.
Language institutes hire year round with a hiring binge in September so your timing would be good that route.
If you plan to work with kids, the school year begins in late August with the first round of hiring contacts being made now in January. There are usually still some positions to fill for the time you plan to arrive, so you could luck out then. |

Another big consideration is location;
1. Once you find a job, how far away from the job would you be living?
2. Of course some areas of the city are nicer (and thus more expensive) than others. Rent considerations.
3. How much time and money would you be spending daily?
If you lived further away from your job, you might be saving money on rent but spending more on travel and using a lot more time.
This city is enormous.
If I were you, I'd plan to come and to stay with a friend, or find a place to rent by the week. Once you have a job, you could then look into flat shares or rent in a suitable part of the city.
There are so many considerations to factor into the question- how much is a comfortable living salary and it is extremely subjective. |

I agree with above posters that 10,000 would be the minimum to be comfortable as a single person. |
