Hi again.
Just wanted to add that I recently flew Swiss back from a business trip to the USA and I was very impressed with the general service.
The return trip to NY was one of the most affordable options on offer at the time too.
From NY to San Fran I flew Virgin America and was equally happy with the general service.
With both airlines their best deals are on their home website pages.
This is a bit off-topic I know but I hope helpful as many of you will be heading off soonish to Prague and other parts of the world and you want to get off to a good start so choosing a good, affordable, and safe airline is important.
Hezky vecer!/Lovely evening!

Ive flown many different international airlines in the past, and the best so far is Qantas for both long-haul and short flights. Id never flown Qantas for a long-haul flight before I flew to Prague, but I was very impressed by their service. Very professional as well as very friendly!

Hi Aussie Chick.
I agree. Quantas have an impeccable safety record.
Last month Emerald (from Sydney), was one of our Trainees who made up an excellent group and Emerald's boyfriend recently became a fully-fledged airline pilot.
According to him the airlines to be avoided are Russian operators, Chinese operators, and Japan operators.
Russian and Chinese operators apparantly have a poor safety record.
I was surprized about the Japan operators.
The reason for this is because there is such a reverence for the pilot that apparantly co-pilots would never question the authority of the main pilot and this can lead to a one man show scenario (which in terms of piloting can be catastrophic).
BA (British Airways) have a great service and fantastic team but Heathrow is a bit of a mare.
Our advice is to never save money by choosing a cheaper airline flying the same route as a safer, more expensive one.
Singapore Airlines for example fly direct from Frankfurt to JFK and are considered one of the safest airlines in the world.
Anyway, thank you for the Quantas tip Aussie Chick - I have yet to visit OZ but one day hope to meet up with my friends there in Perth.
Hezky vecer!/Lovely evening!

This surprises me too, if there is indeed some factual evidence, especially since most international flights have at least one native English speaking pilot on board. Culturally, the whole senpai/kohai relationship would be less applicable with a multicultural crew. Having worked in the airline industry in the U.S., it has very little to do with reverance. The titles "Captain" and "First Officer" apply to their number of flight hours. Accidents of course do happen, but chances are, all pilots on long-haul international flights have been around a long time and know what hey are doing. One doesn't just happen on to a 747. It takes a long time to get there. |
