The article didn't say, but I'm glad he wasn't teaching here. |

Frankly, for that reason, I didn't see the purpose of the post here in the first place, but whatever. |

Let's stay on topic, please.
If you feel a thread is inappropriate, please report it by Report Post or PM to the Mod Team.
In this particular case, a Report Post has already been submitted and the decision was made to permit the thread, as it is unfortunately a fairly common topic that has been discussed many times on both the International and Korean boards.
Some teachers are interested in this topic and this thread will continue for discussion purposes as long as it remains within the policies and rules of this board. |

We hear about this stuff all the time in Korea, Thailand, etc as Mr. K notes, and not too often in Mexico. Every time something like this comes up, I think right away of Charlie Pederson, even though that case was not about a pedophile, but of a foreigner that committed a grievous crime in this country.
Even now, Pederson's name continues to cast a long shadow on Tuxtla Gutierrez I hear. As if every foreigner is under suspicion of being a serial killer on the loose.
edit: Peterson or Pederson? Would hate to have the wrong person mentioned in this type of thread.

Several years later, Pederson still haunts me in Tuxtla. When a dentist student of mine referred me to a specialist he knew, the secretary refused to book me an appointment because of "gringos peligrosos" One private school owner here directed his coordinator not to hire gringo men older than 35 and another private student refused an interview with me for the same reason.
Similar things happen in the States. In Virginia, for example, one illegal drunk driver killed a young girl and the rednecks there blogged in a forum that all Latinos are drunk drivers - human nature I guess. Thank God for referrals. |

Yeah I remember that day when Peterson was caught and in the papers. I was walking down avenida central in tuxtla and everyone was staring at me...which was sort of normal except the stares were well, MORE pronounced than before; suspicious and sort of hateful.
Then after my girlfriend, who is from Chiapas, started dating me her family told her to be careful cause I'd probably try to kill her at some point. |
