Hi all!
I currently have an offer to teach at a school in Hungary. They will pay me
50,000 HUF a month (so roughly 350USD). Is this enough money to live on in a place other than Budapest, if they're also covering my housing expenses? My other difficulty is a 23,000USD loan, which I will have to start paying the principle of in December or January. I figure a monthly payment of about 200USD. Leaving me with 150 to live on.... I can live very frugally and I know I'm not going to get rich any time soon. My question is- can I survive on this? By survive, I mean, can I get a local transit monthly pass and buy myself food?

Europe is not the place to go if you have outside debt.

Nope, you'll probably starve.
If you stick to a budget you could pay your loan with a decent job though. My private lessons in Budapest covered my rent, allowing me to live and travel on my monthly salary, which was far more than the salary you've been offered.

Caveat: Middle Eastern countries will most likely require significant qualifications and experience.

I'm new to ESL as a career and I'm also not really comfortable with going to the Middle East at this point in time- but thank you all for your advice, and I'll definitely consider it, as well as the options in Korea and Japan.
