A friend of mine was recently told that it is taking an enormous amount of time to get an NIE ... she applied last week and was told she could not get the face-to-face appointment until early September. Can anyone confirm this is correct? (BTW this is Madrid) |

I had to go to Diego de Leon about 6 weeks ago. I have my face to face on July 21, so yes your friend is correct.............by the way, it used to be a lot worse I believe. |

My wife and I applied for our NIEs through the Hong Kong consulate in October (2007) and we got them just before Xmas. We were told to expect to wait three months, but they were a bit quicker. Maybe the fact that we needed them to buy property speeded the process up. |

Worse? Not when I got my NIE in Valencia in 2004. I went to the office, they gave me the forms on the spot. I went home, filled them in, took them back and then returned two and a half weeks later where they handed me the letter with my NIE on it. There were no face to face interviews - I guess that must be a more recent development? |
