|
|
I've recently decided to do the TEFL thing and am currently looking at courses and possible locations.
Japan is at the top of my list, but how easy is it currently to find a position for a complete newbie.
Has the demise of Nova led to much slimmer pickings? Are there still ex-Nova people in the job market? What's happening at the other schools? Are things likely to be different in late summer when I am looking to touch down?
I appreciate this has been asked before, but not recently, so I hope you don't mind my asking. |

NOVA's been gone for... 7 going on 8 months now so I hope there aren't still ex-NOVA employees on the job market! They'd be getting pretty thin by now! |

I'm sure ex-NOVA people are still around. G-Com didn't pick up all of them, and it even dumped quite a few shortly after rehiring.
The market it tight. Pad your resume as much as possible and take your chances. Perhaps the best route would be either JET Programme or the few big eikaiwa chains that interview from abroad. If you can't wait for JET or don't like the situation with the bit eikaiwa chains, fill your pockets with US$4000-5000, plan to be here at a good time, and come with expectations of getting a job and your first paycheck in about 2-3 months. Plan ahead.
When exactly is "late summer"? There is a small surge of hiring in Sept for Oct start dates. Other than that, it's case by case. Also, do you have any restrictions on location? |

Thanks guys - I didn't realise the JET window was opening again so soon, so that is now my preferred option.
I opened a new thread here as the information may be useful to others.
