Hello, just wondering if anyone has advice or knows a good company in Mexico City for Health Insurance.
I'm Canadian, and will be arriving in Mexico July 25th.
Should I purchase Health Insurance from a company in Canada, or in Mexico?
Thanks! |

I don't have specific recommendations, but you could start with some searches like these: http://www.google.com.mx/search?hl=es&q=seguros+m%C3%A9dicos http://mx.search.yahoo.com/search?p=seguros+m%C3%A9dicos to explore the possibilities.
Something to keep in mind that takes a while for us Canadians to get used to is that you really only need insurance for the big stuff (like surgery, hospitalization or treatment for chronic conditions). It isn't worth bothering to claim for a simple visit to the doctor when such a visit can be had for 100200 pesos. |

My decision is to purchase ex-pat health insurance before leaving Canada.
If I got really sick in Mexico, or anywhere else in the world, I would want to come home to Canada, but health insurance would not cover me for my first three months home. (It's a little more complicated than that, but I get too long winded when writing on this forum)
So, August 1st I'm on jet plane travelling on a one way ticket from Winnipeg to Vancouver. (The West coast is my original home. ) Here in the boonies insurers have never heard of ex-pat health insurance.
While on the west coast I plan to purchase ex-pat health insurance 'cause, who knows? . . .I might have a catastrophic health care need.
Ex-pat insurance is expensive - I think it will cost me, at 60 years of age, $300/mnth. (Canadian funds)
Teachers I know who have worked overseas have carried ex-pat insurance, it's a safe guard.
But then, again, it's a personal choice. |
