I've been in contact with a school in Tianjin for the past two months. I've jumped through their hoops, but they aren't being very communicative. So I've decided to look elsewhere.
Can anyone suggest some more universities to look into? I'm comfortable with going to the northeast, although I'll go anywhere where they speak Mandarin.
I only have a BA in English, no TESL degree.
Thanks. |

They speak Mandarin virtually everywhere, but the northeast Mandarin is considered more standard as a rule. Tianjin is a major city, is that the environment that you are looking for? You may get more suggestions if you give a description of what an ideal place would be for you. I'm in Henan, which isn't very cosmopolitan but has many universities which pay decently especially when factoring the lower cost of living than that of the coastal cities.
As to the contract, I think most schools will string you along looking for the bigger better deal but want to close these deals before the summer break if possible. Don't tell them to fly a kite but keep your options open too. |

dont know, but one way is to look at the rankings (google "china university rankings") and apply to all the ones in beijing and nearby. you prob can't get into beida and tsinghua, but try Beijing Normal and any others in the top 20. there's a good university here in shijiazhuang - Hebei Normal University - which may interview you. (pm if you want email)
if you go to reputable unis, you're more likely to get better facilities, students, colleagues, etc. (exceptions to this, of course!)
good luck |
