Hello,
I'm living in Madrid now (got my EU citizenship) and heading to Munich in mid December.
I'm wondering if I could get any advice on whether or not I should:
A: Get my TEFL certification in Madrid before my big move to Munich, so that I can give myself a good chance to get a job mid semester.
or
B: Get my TELF certification in Munich.
And I'm pretty much decided on doing a class based course, as opposed to online.
Thank for the help. Much appreciated. If there's something I missed lemme know. Peace. |

Should have mentioned that I have BA from NYU.
I have no certification for it, but I'm adept at accent reduction.
Also realizing that CELTA may be the way to go. Should I still do it in Madrid? How much should I expect to pay for the course?? |

Hi,
I've been working in TEFL in Germany on and off since 2000, and I would recommend you do a CELTA course as it is one which is well known. Whether you do it in Madrid or Munich is irrelevant, as long as you have it: I'd go with wherever is cheaper and more relaxing, because it's quite an intensive course. I did mine 11 years ago and it was around 1000 pounds in England. I did it through International House: there's one in Madrid and I have former colleagues who work there and rate it highly as a language teaching organisation.
You can teach in Germany without a CELTA certificate, but it dramatically reduces the quantity of well-paid work you'll be offered, and Munich is so expensive, you need to be getting the highest hourly rate possible.
Good luck! |
