Here's the thing, not sure which nationalities these regulations will apply to. Will it be across the board? Who knows. Check before you leave. Rules change here on an hourly basis.

WOW TRANSIT VISA now that is a rip off, i would rather NOT transit thru Dubai and shop in their stores aiding their economy. LOL. Not the smartest move on the ministry of mis-informations part.

Abu Dhabi: Visit visas to the UAE will cost Dh500 from August 1 following the revamp of the structure and charges of entry documents in line with a cabinet decision, a senior official said. New types of visas have also been introduced.

"Visit visas valid for 30 days will cost Dh500. This cannot be renewed," said Lieutenant General Mohammad Salem Al Khaili, Director-General of Federal Naturalisation and Residency Department.

"If a person wishes to stay for an extended period, he or she must obtain a visa valid for 90 days which costs Dh1,000."

A health insurance policy is mandatory for visitors and a Dh1,000 deposit will be collected by the department before issuing visas.

My understanding of the article is that the tourism visas are issued through tour companies... so our misc friends and relations who come to see us will have to pay 500dhs. Or do we teachers count as GCC State Residents and hence our friends and relations are our companions? If so how do they prove it on arrival?

I am sure though that everything will NOT become clearer as time passes.

And expect tourism companies to rip off clients who don't understand the difference between the 500 dh and 100 dh visa.
They will build it into the price.

Apparently it is not enough that they are pillaging the world with skyrocketing petroleum prices... let us also soak every visitor to our shores.

The better employers have always paid all visa costs, so it may not effect most teachers. The only place I ever paid for any visa costs was with Kuwait University... and they also soaked us for the medical tests.

I don't know who the tourist visa charges apply to (those who must go through their embassies or those who obtain an automatic visa upon entry), but it would make sense that they have some charge-particularly for visas that involve paperwork.

the worst fee is the TRANSIT FEE, how many teachers working in OMAN used to enjoy transiting thru Dubai to use their 'duty free'.

And many millions of others transiting to reach other nearby/far off places ...

well in true form they are thinking very short sited, and full of GREED.

Personally I would require fairly substantial PAYMENTS to induce me to spend time in the UAE. Maybe SUN-readers are different. Maybe they can be persuaded that the UAE is the new Costa del Sol.
