My friend wants to teach privates in KSA. What's the going rate for an hour of teaching a child in his home? |

Titanicman:
Last time I looked the rate was not less than Sr100 per hour...in saying that an American friend of mine new to private teaching and not wanting to appear so; told a parent Sr400 per hour!
The parent gladly accepted
He's been doing a couple of hours each night for the last 6 months now!! Gets picked up in an S-Class, Dinner is provided and lessons taught and teacher returned to home! Not bad if you can get it!
At the same time I've known colleagues to drop to Sr80 especially if there are a couple being taught together. |

Dear titanicman,
Jim's right - it's bascially "what the traffic will bear". A lot depends on the financial situation of the family in question. Personally, I'd say a "fair" amount would be 125 SR an hour, since that's just about what we made in overload at the IPA. But your friend should be SURE to get the money IN ADVANCE for each lesson. And he/she should also make sure to have made all the particulars clear, things such as transport to and from the home, length of lessons, which evenings, cancelled lessons, etc. Also, if your friend has the usual contract with his/her regular employer, then 2nd jobs are verboten. So, tell him/her NOT to talk about this "extra work" with ANYONE. Better safe than sorry.
Regards,
John |

John's post reminded me of something:
The few times I took in some private students I asked the mothers to agree to 2 points:
1) That the money be paid on the 1st Saturday of each week. So for example if they where coming 5 days a week then that's Sr500 on each Saturday
2)Regardless of the boys turning up or not then she should understand that she is buying the time slot from me. Use it or lose it but eiither way you're paying for it!
All to often with private students, you will find payment is an issue as is time keeping. You'll keep your self free only to find that the students didn't show so you'll have lost time and money (that could have been earned elsewhere)!
Beware! |

Jim is right. There can be problems about payment. There are also many anecdotes about students not turning up. Personally I do not do privates but teach extra classes when I need some more cash.
More recently I have decided to make do with my salary. I cut my coat according to my cloth ! |
