Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this forum. I'm an Irish guy and I'm strongly considering moving to Spain or Argentina next year - I'm just trying to make up my mind. I'm trying to learn Spanish and feel that I'll never be fluent in it, unless I live in a Spanish speaking country.
I'm just wondering about other people's experiences of moving to Argentina when they only had a basic language of Spanish. Was it very difficult initially? How long did it take you to be able to communicate effectively in Spanish?
Secondly, do you think that I'll make enough to live on from teaching English for 15-20 hours a week? I'm lucky that I can rent out my flat in Dublin, so that should cover my accommodation costs in Argentina.
Finally, I'm planning on moving to BA longterm, however, I've read that it can be difficult to obtain a visa for anything longer than 1 year. What are other people's experiences?
Any advice is appreciated! |

1. Basic Spanish skills is fine at first, you'll pick up Castellano here just fine. I had no major problems..

2. Yes you can make enough, but avoid renting anything for more than 700 PESOS a month- remember you get paid here in pesos here, not in dollars..

3. I've lived here a year and a half on a tourist visa (the stamp on your passport), you can do border runs every 3 months and that's fine. I recently got a work visa (residency), but not through teaching ESL.. You can get residency here under different categories, including renting out like you're doing. Visit the Migraciones website listed above and click on 'Radicacin'.
