I am an experienced ESL teacher, with a degree. I have taught in Germany and Japan and loved it...I now have a fiance (no set wedding date) and we want to go somewhere together for a year before we wed....thing is he doesn't have a degree or any tefl cert or experience. Where could we go? I know I wouldnt have any problems finding another ESL teaching post but with my fiance? Is it better we marry beforehand? anyone with any ideas welcomed!!
thanks

Hi there,

I think it would probably be handy to know what his nationality is (for visa/residency issues), what he is qualified to do, what other work experience he has and which foriegn languages he speaks. This could be important info.

Regards,
Mike

So would knowing your specific quals and experience. There are places an experienced EFL teacher with the right quals can support a dependant spouse, but not a lot of places.

Best,
Justin

THIRD piece of important omitted info: what countries are you thinking of going to?? Required qualifications are highly region-specific.

You could always havve him work online, depending on what he does. Or teach private classes. Maybe he could relax this year and you work and vice versa once you get home.

We're thinking about doing that next year.

Are you thinking about him doing that in a foreign land? He'll have to meet visa requirements first or stay short-term as a tourist.

Not really. First of, Korea lets hime in for 90 days, no visa needed beforehand.

Second, we're married, so I could easily get him a spousal visa once I get residency and last time it only took me nine days. So I'd go first and then he'd follow.

Have you thought about hiring him out as a rent boy?

It's a steady job, he could work from home.

When I was in the Far East I seriously considered putting my wife on the game. Tall, blonde hair, blue eyes, she could have made a fortune.

The internet is a great place for info communication, but sarcasm, irony, and just plain weird senses of humour never come through clearly.

My GF would undoubtedly make a fortune, and be worth it. But somehow, it doesn't appeal to either of us...

slds,
Justin

And there's nothing to stop him multi-tasking as well. If there is little demand for rent boys he could set himself up as a toyboy.

I know I shouldn't ask but I will anyway! What is a "rent boy" and how do his duties differ from those of a "toyboy".

Dear Stephen,
Toyboy? I always thought it was "boytoy." Does this mean I'll have to get all my business cards redone?
Regards,
John

From years spent watching British comedies on PBS in the States, I've picked up some British slang. Hence I venture to say that "toyboy" is the term used in the UK and "boytoy" is its equivalent in the US (don't know about Canada).

After sixty years it might well be an idea.
