|
|
I recently applied to begin a CELTA course this September but was told by the course leader that the September one is full, however there's still time to apply for August.
Because the course is in another country it's either September or nothing. I'm hoping that they are lying. That the September course isn't full and neither is the August, which is why they are pushing people to sign up for August, thus leaving more time to fill September.
Is this a plausible explanation or just wishful thinking? |

Can't speak to your individual case, but it sounds like it could be either way.
I run the SIT TESOL course in Ecuador, and our September course fills up like wildfire. Our July course is also hot. I'm training elsewhere in August, as we don't run an august course- it doesn't fill.
Don't know why,

I don't think they're lying. Lots of peple go on vacation until Aug, hence the Sept course would be full. |

A good way to find out is to call them back and ask them if they are a bunch of liars. |

and you would expect them to say "yes we are"?
Where is this course? I too instruct on a TEFL course in Mexico and summer is always the busiest time, with lots of people coming in for June, July, August, and September. October slows down, but then November is a popular month, strangely. |

It's the same as with teaching intensive courses: August is a dead month while September is a rebirth month for lost students souls. It would be wise to offer cheaper rates for low season courses to fill them in, even TEFL courses. |

In London quite a few of the schools offering the CELTA have set the Jun-Aug intensive courses at a premium rate, presumably because they're more popular and from September, less so. I guess that's not the case for LA.
The September course is the last one of the year. I'm thinking I should just show up on the day in the hope that someone's dropped out (although unlikely, considering that they may have paid a deposit). What do you think my chances are? I will, of course, notify the school of my intentions beforehand. |

Sounds like a bad idea. Why set yourself up for failure? Either book in a different month, go to a different CELTA provider or take another TEFL cert. course. |

Just have a break and enroll into a next course available with them or another company. You'll have plenty of time to do a research to know where you want to have your course. |
