Negotiating with a private school in Chengdu that does not provide housing. They are allowing 700rmb per month for housing. Is that enough? If anyone is living in Chengdu, I'd love to hear about what life is like there. I visited there many years ago, but was passing through to go to the mountains so didn't stay long. |

its just about enough - for a decent small furnished apartment. Prices are steeper in the south of the city where many of the ex-pats live.
Make sure the rest of your wage is enough - Chengdu, as the rest of China, is becoming more expensive by the month as inflation bites hard.
As for them mountains - well a lot of them to the west are out of bounds due to political troubles, and some nearer to the city have literally half fallen down - turning once forested beauty-spots - into bare barren rockfaces and piles of rubble (the country around Wolong is unrecognisable through earthquake damage). Lets hope post-Olympics, with a possible raising of travel restriction, again allows for adventurous travel - one of the major reasons for living in Chengdu. |
