I was due to start a degree in TESOL in September, but for the second year running I have funding problems thanks to our lovely government here in the U.K.
Rather than just take any job and waste my year like i did last year, I would like to enter the TESOL market. I did a summer foundation course to enable me to study at university level and that included 8 weeks of studying Tesol methods, planning lessons etc.
I'm looking at doing a CELTA course within the next few months, but I would like some advice on which countries would be suitable for me? I don't have a degree, I finished my A-levels and entered hospitality management for 10 years. I am educated to university level, and I am currently studying a course with Open university.
I enjoyed my taster of Tesol and want to take it further, I'm quite open about where I go to teach. I just want to get a year under my belt before i go back to University.
Thanks for your time!

International House (IH) offers CELTA in various countries - where do you fancy going? Have you looked under 'stuff for teachers'? |

It would also be worth looking at Linguarama. They teach Business English throughout the UK and Europe - and Japan, I think (well, Gary Linekar went there for Japanese lessons so they used to have a school there!)
With your experience in the workplace Business English could be a lucrative option. With EU regulations I think that you not having a degree won't hinder you working within the EU. I worked with Linguarama in Stratford-Upon-Avon right at the strat of my TEFL life and within two weeks there they had offered me a 6 month stint in Italy. I'd been back from that about 3 days and got offered 2 months in Poland. They do offer 12 month contracts but they also often have shorter deals. That might suit you as you'd get to see different countries and gain different experience. |
