Just out of interest, have any of you felt any concrete effects from the perceived "crisis" yet?

Personally I just lost 12 hours per week (really sweet hours back to back, just up the road from my flat - curses!), but admittedly that was in a cement company so what with the construction crash I can pretty much understand it.

What effect do you think it will have on TEFL jobs? Will it favour people without papers (cheaper for academies to employ) or will it make having papers more important as schools are able to be more fussy as they fill fewer jobs, or will it have little effect as Spain realises that speaking English is an essential weapon in a more competitive market?

The situation here if anything is worse with inflation near the 20% mark. I was doing some classes for a local government institution who messed around a bit, firstly deciding to reduce the number of groups from three to two, then after Christmas delaying the restart date of the course before finally deciding that they couldn't afford to continue. I lost nine clock hours due to that and they were all in the 1030-1600 "graveyard slot" and therefore not easy to replace. I still haven't had any problems finding privates, in fact this year financially has been the best of my five years teaching so far.
