Hi,

A question to teachers who have taught in Thailand before, but are presently teaching in Taiwan (regards salary taxation):

Came as a surprise to see Taiwanese teaching salaries ''better'' than Thai salaries, marginally that is. Then came the second surprise, tax at 6% <184 days and 20% 184>, not excessive. I did not pay tax when I taught many moons ago in Thailand.

I also see job vacancy postings for teachers, the norm 100 hours for NTS$ 60,000-62,000 (mo) for a BA qualified; teacher experienced. The postings I looked at, however, go on to state tax at NTS $20,000, which leaves me puzzled as to the ''math''

Imagine Taiwanese tax takes into account if a teacher should work his/ her full contracted year, and take full advantage of all the schools contracted benefits and then, tax additionally on those benefits, not a teachers salary alone, this is my concern, am I wrong?

I wonder if much depends upon on the time of year a foreigner arrives in Taiwan, as to whether a the teacher pays a high or low rate of tax?

And if he or she arrives at the least appropriate time, then the about to be employed teacher ''might'' well be paying a higher rate, taxable amount NTS?

Presumably a teacher will be entitled to an amount NTS $ back in their pocket at a later date if they work over 184 days, so to speak, right?

And of those teaching presently, some will have an understanding school director who will run the hoops to help their dutiful and experienced or inexperienced teachers, or not?
