Anyone here in Japan to study with teaching just as a means to an end?
Where are you studying for the JLPT?
I'll be teaching in Japan shortly but it's just my bread and butter while I study. I'd really like to find a solid course for JLPT-prep in the Tokyo/Chiba area. So far I haven't found much, any info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks very much |

Teaching will be my primary... my studying will be my living in Japan.
So I'll just be studying by myself (not counting any Japanese people I will talk to, etc)
I don't think I'll take any courses.
It also depends on what level you plan on taking as well I guess. |

Its been hard for my husband to study simply by living here...everyone want to speak english (well except grocers and stuff but they dont really want to have a conversation). My husband is going to a japanese school (community college) and he is preparing to take the test in december. There are also local japanese classes that are super cheap to attend, you should check out your city hall (or whatever it is called) |

I live in Kansai but I know the Meguro Language Center is pretty popular. I've never actually attended the school but I've down loaded resources off of their site dozens of times.

That would be "shiyakusho", or "kuyakusho" if you live in one of the wards of the larger cities. Those classes are usually taught by volunteers.
I passed JLPT 2 last year, and was supposed to be studying diligently from the beginning of this year towards Level 1, but here it's already July and I haven't even got halfway through the vocab/ kanji text.
As I have a pretty solid grounding in Japanese I just decided to study by myself for JLPT 2 last year, but if you are new to the language I do recommend classes, especially if you are in a situation where you don't get to speak Japanese very much.
Because of my work/ home situation I can go days without speaking English at all, so my spoken Japanese is fine, but I found that I was getting tired of being semi-illiterate and needed the motivation of studying for an exam to get me to the point where I can read pretty much anything I need to. |
