Hello all,

Just arrived in HCMC yesterday with my boyfriend. We're both Caucasian Americans, recent college grads with BAs with TEFL.

We're trying to prepare our resumes/CVs to bring with us as we troll the city for jobs, but we're unsure about any special requirements that the Vietnamese have for the document. We have typical American resumes--one page, listing contact info, education, work experience, and skills. I've working in Europe before and know that there you need to put a photo directly on the resume, as well as include your marital status and nationality. Are these elements necessary for resumes in Vietnam? I tried searching the forum for past discussions on this topic but didn't see any.

Also, must we apply for jobs with our TEFL certificates in hand, or is listing them on the resume enough? We don't currently have paper versions, as we still need them to be sent to us here. Do we also need to bring copies of our university degrees?

Thank you so much for all your help!

It is good to include your photo - it is the norm for most Asian countries - especially if you are going to email it.

It might be a good idea to include what was covered in your TEFL course on your resume - what you learned and how you were trained.

As for copies of your certificates/diplomas, I think it is absolutely necessary to have official copies of your college diploma and certificates to prove that your education is genuine. There are people who actually fabricate their diplomas.

Good Luck.
