This is Irish specific really, it concerns Irish teachers who have successfully and speedily negotiated the maze of things to do in order to go through the medical and visa procedures from Ireland. It seems that bit trickier because there's no embassy here in Dublin. I'm wondering if there are any Irish clinics who specialise in doing the medical test for the KSA medical. I don't want to go through my own GP because it would take such a long time. I wouldn't mind going to a medical centre that does this on Harley Street in London, but I'm not sure if that's allowed (I assume Irish citizens have to do it in Ireland). Also, does anyone have any bits of good advice about applying for the work visa. I'm interested in the STA 2 month job that has been advertised recently. Speed and availability seems to be their main requirements.

Just send your visa to the London embassy by registered mail, and include a a few pounds for them to return it to you. It's really not a problem, though it does slow things down a bit, especially if there are complications in your application. Alternatively, if you have the time and means, go over to London for a few days.

As for the medical test, try the Tropical Medicine Bureau, or go to any major hospital.

Here's the situation:

Yes, RoI applicants go through London as the London embassy is officially the KSA Embassy to UK and Ireland.

You can do the medical in either UK or Ireland but wherever you get it done it must be legalized by the appropriate authorities in that country, i.e. the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London or the Dept. of Foreign Affairs in Dublin, specifically. If you do it in London, e.g. Harley St., you will have to wait until it comes back (at least 48 hours) and then take it to FCO, or get the clinic to do that for an extra fee, about 50 GBP. They don't all provide that service.

As you are based in Ireland, the fastest way is to go to the Pembroke Clinic in Pembroke St. (01-661-6610) and do the med there. They are one of the very few clinics in Ireland registered with the Saudi embassy and they can provide an all-in-one service. The cost is about 300 euro not including Foreign Affairs legalization (forgotten how much that is, but no more than 20 euro I would imagine).

Good luck.

There is no need for a clinic to be 'registered' with the Saudi embassy, so far as I know. All I did was take my medical report to the Min of Foreign Affairs, who certified that it was from a legitimate institution. I don't think the Saudi embassy require any more than that: if they did, why would you have to get the stamp from the MFO in the first place?

Sounds like a rip-off, even by Irish standards. The Tropical Health bureau does all the relevant tests for about half that.

In fact, you can get the medical done by the local GP. The money you pay him/her for the actual examination is a lot less, but then you must get the blood tests done at a lab and also, have an X-ray done. After all that has been taken care of, there isn't much difference in cost, but a lot of time and hassle wasted. If the employer in Saudi is going to reimburse you anyway, why undergo the hassle?

On the basis of what Cleo says, the THB is well worth contacting.

In my last posting, I mentioned the Dept of Foreign Affairs. In fact, if I recall correctly, back in 1996 it was possible for me to have the Pembroke Clinic med report accepted by the Saudis without the authentication because it (the clinic) was registered with them. However, I admit I did have to get the report authenticated by DFO on a subsequent occasion. That being said, the people in Pembroke do know what is required by the embassy.

Mind you, getting a medical done in Harley St. in London would be quite a bit more than 300 euro!! 350 GBP is more typical.

Well, some years ago, I did my medical tests free of charge through my GP. Except for the AIDS test, I paid 50 to get the medical certificate to be signed by the consultant!
